Proposal for a Solar farm and energy system
Ampyr Solar Europe is developing a solar farm, situated near Threemiletown in West Lothian. Part of the site was formerly a shallow mine, but it is now gently undulating agricultural land, bound by woodland and the B9080 road. Its development as a solar farm will be a major step towards a sustainable future for West Lothian.
The planning application was approved by the West Lothian Development Management Committee on 11 December 2024 (planning reference 0568/FUL/24). Work on discharge of conditions will start in January 2025, but the site will not be operational until late 2026 at the earliest.
The project will be able to supply the electricity needs of 15,200 typical Scottish households per year
The clean energy generated will save on average 15,400 tonnes of carbon per year
