Proposal for a Solar farm and energy system

Ampyr Solar Europe is developing proposals for a solar farm, situated near Threemiletown in West Lothian. Part of the site was formerly a shale mine, but it is now gently undulating agricultural land, bound by woodland and the B9080 road.  Its development as a solar farm will be a major step towards a sustainable future for West Lothian.

A planning application was submitted to West Lothian Council in late July 2024, with planning reference 0568/FUL/24. Ahead of submission, we attended Ecclesmachan and Threemiletown Community Council meeting in June 2024 to outline the finalised design.

The project will be able to supply the electricity needs of 15,200 typical Scottish households per year

The clean energy generated will save on average 15,400 tonnes of carbon per year

AMPYR is exploring supplying cheap power to major local power users

Biodiversity is a key aspect of detailed project design

Previous Exhibitions

We originally submitted a Proposal of Application Notice (PAN) to West Lothian Council in Summer 2022 and held consultation events in Ecclesmachan Village Hall in November 2022.  The feedback received resulted in a change to the proposed site boundary, which created a larger buffer between the site and Canal Court.  This necessitated submission of a revised PAN and two subsequent consultation events held in August 2023 and September 2023.
